Ankle weights

I used BBs as weight but sand would work. The weight distributes evenly and they are comfortable. The seal is velcro but holds well.

Ok, but......

These weights are a great idea, but the buckles are not strong enough, and being plastic, one of mine has broken. So, when they work, they work great. Also, the Velcro won’t hold small shot very well. Not a terrible problem, if you simply stitch the end shut. I really want to like these, when they work they are great, but.....

Better choices

Velcro closing system isn't strong enough. Weak design.

So far so good!

Expensive for what you get, but convenience costs. One nice thing is I can adjust my weight as needed. I am using lead shot, but could just as easily use sand. With Sand I could change weight rather easily as needed. Make sure the Velcro is good and tight, I lost some lead shot last time I dove when I tossed the weights to see how they hold the weights in.

Does the job.

These are easy to lid with weight, and the pocket is quite secure. The straps have a Velcro type fastener in addition to the buckle, so they don't loosen at all while diving. The only downside, is that since I only loaded one pound of weight into each, it tends to bunch up and isn't evenly distributed.

Fillable ankle weights

Great I have weights of various amounts in zip lock bags. Easy to adjust. Just change ziplock bag to new weight needed

Very good

Great if you're trying to reclaim McNutt ankle weights that wear out,.. or re-use sack weights you no longer need. Velcro buckle is particularly novel and permits solid micro-adjustments.

Weights at the Cheapest Price

The neoprene wetsuit I use makes me positively buoyant. I need to offset that upward force with this item to avoid having my feet be above my head for most of the dive. I need practice with it to avoid letting sand whisk away from its mouth. I'm sure it would be a better product with a Youtube demo.

Weights at the Cheapest Price

The neoprene wetsuit I use makes me positively buoyant. I need something to hold down my legs to avoid having my feet always be above my head during a dive. I feel like this will eventually work if I keep practicing using it. The sand seemed to wash away upon first use but I squeezed it in tighter and it seems to be improving; I have yet to go again to try it.

Adequate ankle weighting

Great, light product to travel with. Upon arrival, we went to the beach and filled them with sand. We didn't have a scale, but I suspect they only weighed around 1 lb each. We used these for cage diving with Great Whites. Could have used a heavier substance to fill them with for this purpose. Easy on and off, and while I thought the sand might wash away, the velcro closure did do a good job of holding it. I think to get up to 3 lbs you would need either lead or steel shot or some other form.

Gets the job done!

My wife needed ankle weights because her fins are positively buoyant and she is tiny, but we couldn't find any weights light enough to do the job. These "fill your own" weights were PERFECT for us, she ended up using 1 1/4 pounds per leg after dialing in her buoyancy on several dives. They are well made and after 30 dives no problems have occurred!

ankle weights

a good value after your ankle weights show signs of age. take the weights from the old units and just install in the new sleaves, save some money with very little work.

Needs more adjustment length

Used for diving a dry suit in the cold southern California Pacific waters. Needed to be able to adjust weight to get optimal buoyancy and trim. Well made and never "leak shot" like some other fillable weights. However, as noted in another review, they do need an extra inch or two of adjustment. They are really tight over my dry suit, and I am not a big guy.

Great little weights

My wife needed ankle weights to get her trim perfect, but they were all too heavy... this allowed us to fill up our own ankle weights to exactly what she needed (using shot from a torn soft weight sack we already had). Just the ticket if you need lighter weights or want to really nail your trim.

Ankle Weights are AWESOME!

These ankle weights are extremely easy to fill and easy to clip and unclip. It was difficult to find "fillable" ankle weights that work well for someone with small ankles, but these are GREAT!

Exactly what I needed

Works great for me but I've got skinny ankles. Not a lot of room to adjust outward. Needs another inch or so to the adjustment strap.

Do your feet always seem to rise above you when diving? Some divers need to compensate the buoyancy of their legs with ankle weights. Diving with ankle weights, reduce leg and fin buoyancy, minimizes back stress for a safer, more comfortable dive. Ankle weights keep fins submerged at the surface and add stability during underwater projects such as photography or dive instruction.

Ankle weights are an important part of a diver's total weighting system. If your legs are too high, then there will be increased drag. When your legs are too high this will slow you down and cause fatigue. Correct your position with ankle weights. Many divers, especially women, have short waists. The weights in your BC or on your weight belt are closer to your head than they are on divers with longer waists. Therefore, the weight, push your upper body down and your legs up, causing unnecessary drag, Ankle weights will take some of this weight off the waist area and will move it down to the ankles, putting your body in a correct horizontal position.

Dry suit divers frequently require ankle weights because the legs of a dry suit are filled with air. The result is the legs want to float up. Ankle weights add negative buoyancy to the ankles and help bring the legs down into a correct horizontal position. If you are one of these divers, this fill your own set of ankle weights, will cure those problems. Simply fill these ankle weight pouches with sand or lead shot up to 3 lbs. (1.36 kg) each, and fasten around your ankles, then watch your diving profile become more streamlined and efficient.

"Aqua Fill Your Own Set" Ankle Weights are constructed of flexible, comfortable form-fitting neoprene with hook and loop closure to secure the weight of your choice inside. Ankle weights come equipped with durable side-release squeeze-style quick-release buckle to secure ankle weights around your ankles. Fill-able ankle weights allow the diver to customize the amount of weight they need to combat buoyancy.
