Different Types of Air-Integrated Dive Computers

There are two specific types of air-integrated dive computers: the type you wear on your wrist, and console dive computers. The latter is a less-expensive option that attaches to your air supply.

Console Dive Computers

Console dive computers use a hose to connect directly to your air supply, eliminating the need for a separate pressure gauge. You can attach your console dive computer to your BC (Buoyancy Compensator) vest for easy access as you dive.

Wireless and Wrist-Mounted Air-Integrated Dive Computers

Wrist-mounted dive computers collect and relay information about your air supply wirelessly, without a hose connection.

These models retrieve data via a wireless transmitter attached to the first-stage high-pressure port. Your wireless console or wrist-mounted dive computer acts as the receiver, delivering vital information without a direct physical connection to your tank.

Some divers prefer using a hose-connected air-integrated dive computer, because these models eliminate the risk of transmission errors or signal failure.

Benefits of Dive Computers

If the act of looking at a wrist watch feels natural to you, you’re probably a good candidate for a wrist-mounted dive computer. When you’re already accustomed to checking your wrist for information, you’ll likely remember to check your dive computer frequently to track your progress.

Console dive computers mounted on your body are less likely to come into contact with rocks and obstacles than a computer attached to your arm, so they’re also better protected throughout your dive.
